Unconventional techniques began to be used, such as: abstract photograms, photomontages, as well as combinations of photography and graphic design, as the 1920s/30s was an experimental time. This movement aimed to allow photographers to do what painters could not and capture things in its truest form by using light and tone to highlight the various textures and document everyday life. Artists from the Russian Revolution such as El Lissitzky participated in showing a vital way of reshaping their society. The photographs that were taken were made of a range of unfamiliar devices such as up/down angles, close ups, tilting the pictures. This occurred so they can remove perception as well as visual representation from photographers natural habits.

Hahn's zoomed into the lips so you could see the fine lines and other small details. It makes you feel like you can touch it as its so close up and refined, amplifying the texture. He focuses the light on the lines of the lips to show the texture clearly and highlights the area as a main focus. The technique he used is retouching(Additive), whereby marks are created onto the surface of the print so flaws can be corrected or highlight the compositional elements. The marks are usually made with either a brush or graphite, which are usually in the forms of dabs, lines or spots. The subject looks like their preparing to kiss someone, scrunching their lips creating more fine lines. The composition is centred so you focus on the lips straight away drawing you straight onto the texture of the lips. |
Josef Sudek focused on all the different textures of the stump, as there are many lines, as well as rough areas of the surface and smooth patches, which Sudek focused on by using the light to capture the smooth surface. Sudek also zoomed into the stump so it filled the whole image with various textures, making you curious about what it may feel like as its details are very clear and obvious. There is a clear contrast between within this image

I got 2 contrasting secondary images, which i then cut 4 circles out of both images. I placed the circles from one image to the other, so the surface was disrupted. As we can tell the image with a vast amount of red contrasts with the black and white image, this allows you to see the new surface clearly as it is not meant to be there and looks quite out of place.
